The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Meigs County. Our residents share a hard-working, can-do attitude that shows in the many small businesses that call Meigs County home. With access to affordable real estate and utilities and communities where residents prefer to support local businesses, small businesses of all kinds – from construction companies to car dealers – are thriving here. And, with our cultural attractions and beautiful landscape, it’s small wonder that so many specialty retail shops and restaurants do well here. Businesses offering personal and professional services also thrive here.

Our community leaders, and businesses, including area lenders, welcome entrepreneurs and are ready and willing to help them get started. The Meigs County Economic Development Office has partnered with the Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth (APEG) to support entrepreneurship with the following resources:

  • ACEnet, located in nearby Athens, provides sector-specific services to start-ups and expanding businesses including assistance with business planning, product development, marketing, financial management and access to capital.
  • Ohio University Innovation Center, also located in Athens, provides an entrepreneurial ecosystem dedicated to helping new businesses with access to advisers and coaches, office space, and more.
  • Ohio University’s Small Business Development Center also provides business consulting for entrepreneurs who are working on a business idea or in their start-up stages or existing businesses that want to grow.
  • Free and confidential mentoring, expert consulting and educational workshops are available through the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) in Columbus just an hour’s drive away.
